Monroe: A Family Business

Monroe Transportation Services began in 1928 under the name Monroe Cartage Company, located in Chicago, IL. John Davids purchased the company after the Great Depression in 1936, and after his unexpected death in 1949, brother-in-law Ralph Swierenga Sr. assumed leadership of the company. His personal qualities of honesty, integrity and dedication earned him the respect of his customers and a reputation for outstanding service, a legacy that endures today.

In 1987 Ralph Swierenga Jr. and his brother Jack took over the company as partners until Ralph Jr’s untimely death in 1999. Today, Jack Swierenga continues to guide the company as President and CEO according to the values instilled under his father’s and brother’s leadership. A team of dedicated managers and employees work closely together to provide innovative logistical solutions to meet the unique needs of their customers. Monroe’s history and long-standing reputation as a quality carrier are hallmarks of stability, experience and perseverance.
